Ready to serve

Staff and volunteers are often the first on the scene and are some of the last to leave.

We supported 28,709 families and individuals with disaster recovery efforts in 2021.

The Salvation Army stands ready to serve the community, combating natural disasters with acts of God. Staff in the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands support and direct the Army's network of services that help many communities, whether it is a local incident or a major disaster. The Salvation Army’s relief staff and volunteers are often the first on the scene and are some of the last to leave. In most communities in Hawai‘i and the Pacific Islands, The Salvation Army is already at work providing needed assistance with our programs, honoring a century-old commitment to serve those in need at the time of need and at the place of need without discrimination

Nadine Finds Recovery Relief

When Hawai‘i’s weather broke rainfall records in December 2021, Nadine Rosa’s home flooded — and she wasn’t sure who, if anyone, could help. Thankfully the Red Cross in put Nadine and her children in touch with The Salvation Army, and they were placed in a homeless shelter for the night. The next day, The Salvation Army helped move them to Camp Waianae, where they resided for nearly two weeks, until the rain stopped, and the house was in a livable condition. Through The Salvation Army, Nadine and her family received food, shelter, clothing, and most importantly, hope for better days ahead.
