Salvation Army gives back to Hawaii communities on Giving Tuesday - and everyday

HONOLULU (Nov. 29, 2022) – On any given Tuesday, The Salvation Army provides social service outreach programs to hundreds of individuals and families across Hawaii. And, Giving Tuesday 2022 on Tuesday, Nov. 29, is no exception. The Salvation Army estimates they will be providing hot meals and non-perishable food packs to more than 740 people in the islands on Tuesday as part of their regular outreach.
“We’re fortunate to serve those in need in our island communities every day of the year,” said Major Phil Lum, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands. “On this Giving Tuesday, for example, a snapshot into services we are holding includes regular food pantries on each island, distributing meals on Kauai, Maui and Hawaii Islands, and even providing hot showers for homeless individuals on Kauai. Of course it wouldn’t be a Giving Tuesday without an ask; monetary donations to support our programs across Hawaii can be made at Hawaii.SalvationArmy.org.”
Examples of ongoing social service outreach activities happening statewide on most Tuesdays throughout the year, including Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29:
Kauai
The Salvation Army Lihue Corps
- Hot meals from 11 a.m. to noon – serving 60 to 80 individuals
- Social Services – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – serving 10 to 15 individuals
- Mobile hot shower – 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – serving 5 to 15 individuals
Oahu
The Salvation Army Kaneohe Corps
- Social Services - Food Pantry from 9 a.m. to noon – serving 25 to 35 individuals and families.
Maui
The Salvation Army Kahului Corps
- Homeless outreach breakfast and food bag distribution in Paia – 9 a.m. – serving 25 to 30 individuals
- Homeless outreach mobile food bag distribution in Kahului/Wailuku – 11:30 a.m. – serving 20 to 25 individuals
- Social Service Office open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Hawaii
The Salvation Army Kona Corps
- Hot meal distribution from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – serving 225 individuals
- Food Pantry from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. – serving 320 individuals.
- Food bag delivery to seniors – noon to 1 p.m. – serving 50 seniors.
